Speak Book Review

Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen

Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen is a realistic fiction novel about a young high school teenager named Melinda. In the realistic fiction novel by Laurie Halse Andersen Melinda has to find herself important and worth talking. Melinda has to overcome a fear of talking after she attends a party which she really shouldn’t have attended. Melinda attends a party and many bad things go on at the party one of which is drinking. Melinda was not responsible at the party and did many things that she shouldn’t have done. Melinda got drunk and got peer pressured into doing something with a boy that was not appropriate for her to do at her young age. After the party and throughout the novel Melinda gets bullied and has to learn how to overcome her fear of talking about the horrific events.

I personally thought that Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson was a great book that really teaches young teens very important messages. The book teaches teens not to do something stupid like drink because it can ruin your life forever. The book also teaches that if you do something that you cannot tell your parents about, then it is wrong and you should not be doing it. The author’s style of writing was very easy to understand. It would be helpful for a teen to know about drugs and alcohol and how they are very bad for any person to use and especially high school teens. I would recommend this book to all teens because I think that it was a great book that teaches lifelong lessons. I would give Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson a 5 star rating.  Nicole S.; Teen Reviewer
