Siren Book Review

Siren Book Review

In The Siren the main character Kahlen is on a cruise ship with her family and soon the ship begins sinking, Kahlen is given a tough choice: will she let her family die and live 100 years with the ocean without being able to use her voice and being the cause of the death of many others? Kahlen makes the tough decision and chooses to live with the ocean. Eventually, Kahlen meets a boy (Akinli) and struggles with communicating to him because her voice has been “taken” by the ocean. Once her voice is heard she struggles to save Akinli from going to the ocean, which she does although it adds more years onto her sentence to the ocean. Kahlen is banned from seeing Akinli and soon they both begin to get very sick, forcing the ocean to release Kahlen to Akinli. Once they hear each other’s voices, they miraculously begin to feel better and can live a happy life together.

Kiera Cass, the author of this novel did an amazing job conveying the plot of this story. I think this book will appeal to anyone 11 or older, mostly girls. It is a very interesting book and I couldn’t put the book down. Kiera Cass does a great job in how the events of the story play out. She builds excitement and tension very well in her word choice and writing style. I would definitely recommend this book to teens, high schoolers and maybe even adults who enjoy reading fiction and also anyone who likes romantic books. This title is definitely worth having in the library. This is by far one of my favorite books and I will recommend this book to all of my friends and family.       Anna L.; Teen Reviewer
